A quick and easy homemade version of the popular iced brown sugar oatmilk shaken espresso that tastes better than the coffee shop original, costs less than a dollar per serving, and comes together in under five minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 shots (about 2 ounces) freshly brewed espresso
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup oat milk (barista-style preferred)
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brew 2 shots of espresso (about 2 ounces total).
  2. Add 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar to a mason jar or cocktail shaker.
  3. Pour the hot espresso over the brown sugar and stir briefly to start dissolving.
  4. Add 1 cup of ice cubes to the jar.
  5. Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (if using).
  6. Secure the lid tightly.
  7. Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until frothy.
  8. Fill a tall serving glass with fresh ice.
  9. Pour the shaken espresso mixture over the fresh ice.
  10. Slowly pour 1 cup of oat milk over the back of a spoon into the glass to create layers.
  11. Stir gently if desired to combine flavors.
  12. Sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon on top (optional).

Notes

For best results, use freshly brewed hot espresso to ensure the brown sugar dissolves completely. Shake vigorously for at least 15 seconds to create a velvety foam. Use fresh ice in the serving glass to prevent dilution. If brown sugar is clumpy, break it up before adding. For a less sweet version, reduce brown sugar to 1 tablespoon or 1.5 teaspoons. For a hot version, skip the ice and top with warm oat milk.
