Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen whipped topping, thawed (like Cool Whip)
  • 2 tablespoons caramel sauce or chocolate syrup
  • Optional: a few drops of orange food coloring
  • Graham crackers, vanilla wafers, pretzels, apple slices, or gingerbread cookies for serving
  • Optional: crushed graham crackers or toasted pecans for garnish

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese: Take cream cheese out of the fridge at least 30 minutes before starting. It should be soft enough to press your finger into easily. If forgotten, microwave in 10-second bursts until soft but not melted.
  2. Mix the base: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer on medium speed until completely smooth and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl.
  3. Add the pumpkin and sugars: Add pumpkin puree, powdered sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until well combined and silky.
  4. Add the spices: Sprinkle in pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, and salt. Mix on low speed until incorporated. Taste and adjust sweetness or spice as desired.
  5. Fold in the whipped topping: Gently fold the thawed whipped topping into the pumpkin mixture using a rubber spatula. Do not overmix; fold until no white streaks remain. The mixture should be fluffy and mousse-like.
  6. Chill the dip: Transfer the dip to a serving platter or shallow bowl. Spread into an even layer. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (overnight is even better).
  7. Create the spiderweb design: After chilling, spoon caramel sauce or chocolate syrup into a small piping bag or zip-top bag. Snip off a tiny corner. Pipe a small circle in the center, then larger concentric circles around it, leaving about 1/2 inch between each circle. Use a toothpick or knife to drag lines from the center outward through all circles, then from the edge inward. Repeat around the dip to create a spiderweb pattern.
  8. Garnish and serve: If desired, sprinkle crushed graham crackers or toasted pecans around the edge. Serve immediately with dippers of choice.

Notes

Do not skip softening the cream cheese to avoid lumps. Use full-fat cream cheese for best texture. Fold whipped topping gently to keep the dip light and airy. Chilling is essential for firming up the dip and allowing flavors to meld. Practice the spiderweb design on a plate first if needed.
