Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • 8 oz salami, thinly sliced (Genoa recommended)
  • 6 oz prosciutto, thinly sliced
  • 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese, cubed or sliced
  • 4 oz gouda cheese, sliced
  • 1 cup mixed olives (green and kalamata)
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes
  • 1 cup mini pickles or cornichons
  • 1 cup crackers (buttery Ritz or water crackers)
  • 1/2 cup almonds or pecans
  • 1215 thin pretzel sticks, broken in half for legs
  • 1215 black olives, pitted (for spider bodies)
  • Small dollop of cream cheese (to attach eyes)
  • 1215 tiny mozzarella pearls or white beans (for spider eyes)
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs (optional, for garnish)
  • Edible glitter or black sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Make the Cream Cheese Spread (5 minutes): In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Piping Bag (2 minutes): Spoon the cream cheese mixture into a piping bag fitted with a small round tip, or into a zip-top bag. If using a zip-top bag, squeeze the mixture into one corner, then snip off about 1/4 inch of the corner. Twist the top of the bag to keep pressure consistent.
  3. Assemble the Board Base (5 minutes): Arrange your meats, cheeses, olives, tomatoes, pickles, crackers, and nuts around the edges of your board. Leave a large open circle in the center—about 6-8 inches wide—for the spider web. Don’t overcrowd; you want the web to be the star.
  4. Pipe the Spider Web (10 minutes): Start in the center of the empty space. Pipe a small dot of cream cheese. Then, pipe a spiral outward, working your way to the edge of the open area. It doesn’t have to be perfect—wobbly lines look more like a real web! Once the spiral is done, use the tip to drag lines from the center outward, like spokes on a wheel. This creates the classic web pattern.
  5. Create the Spiders (5 minutes): For each spider, take a black olive and cut a small slit on one side (this is where the eyes go). Insert two pretzel stick halves on each side of the olive for legs—you’ll have four legs on each side. Use a tiny dab of cream cheese to attach two mozzarella pearls or white beans as eyes. Place the spiders directly on the cream cheese web or around the board.
  6. Add Final Touches (3 minutes): Tuck rosemary sprigs around the board to look like creepy vines. If using, sprinkle a little edible glitter or black sesame seeds over the web for a spooky shimmer. Step back and admire your work!

Notes

Soften cream cheese completely for smooth piping. Add spiders right before serving to keep pretzel sticks crunchy. The board can be assembled up to 4 hours in advance, covered and refrigerated. For a vegetarian version, skip the meats and add extra cheeses and vegetables. For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free pretzel sticks or carrot sticks for spider legs.
