A simple, set-it-and-forget-it turkey chili made with just five core ingredients. Perfect for busy weeknights, this slow cooker recipe delivers rich, savory flavor with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground turkey (93/7 recommended)
  • 1 (15-oz) can diced tomatoes (fire-roasted preferred), undrained
  • 1 (15-oz) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Dice the onion. Open the can of diced tomatoes. Drain and rinse the kidney beans.
  2. Place the ground turkey directly into the bottom of a 4- to 6-quart slow cooker. Add the diced onion on top.
  3. Pour the undrained diced tomatoes over the turkey and onion. Add the drained and rinsed kidney beans.
  4. Sprinkle the chili powder, salt, black pepper, and optional garlic powder evenly over the top.
  5. Stir everything together with a wooden spoon until well combined.
  6. Cover and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours or on HIGH for 3-4 hours. LOW is recommended for best flavor.
  7. Optional: About halfway through cooking, break up any large chunks of turkey with a spoon.
  8. Once cooked, stir the chili. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Ladle into bowls and serve with desired toppings.

Notes

For a thicker chili, remove the lid for the last 30-60 minutes of cooking, or mash some beans against the side of the pot. This chili tastes even better the next day and freezes well for up to 3 months.
