These golden, melty ham and cheese crescent roll-ups are quick, forgiving, and perfect for make-ahead snacking. Crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside, they’re a crowd-pleasing comfort snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (8 oz / 227 g) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 6 to 8 slices deli ham, thinly sliced (low-sodium preferred)
  • 6 to 8 slices Swiss or cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water (egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough onto a clean surface and press together any perforations to form a solid sheet.
  3. Spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard evenly over the dough (optional).
  4. Layer the ham slices evenly over the dough, slightly overlapping, then place the cheese slices on top.
  5. Sprinkle freshly ground black pepper and smoked paprika if using.
  6. Roll the dough tightly from the shorter edge and pinch seams to seal.
  7. Cut the roll into 8 to 10 equal pieces, about 1 to 1.5 inches thick.
  8. Whisk the egg with water to make egg wash. Brush each roll-up with egg wash, then brush melted butter on top.
  9. Place roll-ups cut side down on the baking sheet and bake for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
  10. Let the roll-ups rest on a cooling rack for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

If dough is too cold and cracking, let it sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before rolling. Pinch seams tightly to prevent cheese leakage. Do not overfill to avoid soggy dough. Egg wash is key for golden, crisp finish. Bake just until golden to avoid drying out. Roll-ups can be made ahead and refrigerated or frozen before baking; add extra baking time if chilled or frozen. Let rest after baking to allow cheese to set.
