A lightened-up version of classic buffalo chicken dip made in the slow cooker with Greek yogurt and cottage cheese for extra protein. Perfect for family dinners or game day, this creamy, tangy dip is kid-friendly and comes together with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken (about 2 large chicken breasts or 1 rotisserie chicken)
  • 8 oz reduced-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup low-fat cottage cheese, blended smooth
  • 1/2 cup buffalo wing sauce (Frank’s RedHot Original recommended)
  • 1/4 cup shredded reduced-fat cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons ranch seasoning mix (1 packet)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional)
  • Celery sticks, carrot sticks, cucumber rounds (for serving)
  • Whole wheat crackers or tortilla chips (for serving)
  • Mini bell peppers, halved (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prep your chicken: If using raw chicken breasts, place in a pot, cover with water, bring to a boil, then simmer for 12-15 minutes until cooked through. Let cool slightly, then shred with two forks. You’ll need about 2 cups. Alternatively, use rotisserie chicken.
  2. Blend the cottage cheese: In a food processor or blender, blitz cottage cheese for about 30 seconds until completely smooth. Set aside.
  3. Soften the cream cheese: If not at room temperature, microwave for 15-20 seconds until soft but not hot.
  4. Combine everything in a mixing bowl: Add softened cream cheese, blended cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, buffalo sauce, ranch seasoning, and shredded cheddar. Stir until well combined.
  5. Add the chicken and butter: Fold in shredded chicken and butter (if using). Stir until chicken is evenly coated.
  6. Transfer to the slow cooker: Scrape the mixture into a 3-4 quart slow cooker.
  7. Cook on low for 2-3 hours or high for 1-1.5 hours, stirring once halfway through. The dip is ready when hot, bubbly around edges, and cheese is melted.
  8. Give it a final stir before serving. Taste and add a pinch of salt if needed.
  9. Serve warm directly from the slow cooker with veggie sticks, crackers, or chips.

Notes

Don’t overcook the dip; 2-3 hours on low is plenty. Stir at least once halfway through. Use room temperature ingredients for best texture. Blend cottage cheese until completely smooth to avoid lumps. Adjust heat gradually for kids. Ranch seasoning helps thicken the dip and balance acidity.
