These Easy Mummy Hot Dogs with Cheese Ghosts are the perfect Halloween dinner for kids and adults alike. They come together in under 30 minutes, use simple ingredients you probably already have, and are adorable and customizable.

  • 8 hot dogs (preferably beef)
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough (Pillsbury recommended)
  • 8 candy eyes (or mustard dots)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 8 slices white cheddar cheese (or provolone, mozzarella)
  • Black sesame seeds or poppy seeds (for ghost eyes)
  • Ketchup and mustard (for serving, optional)
  • Pretzel sticks (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll crescent roll dough and separate into 8 triangles. Cut each triangle lengthwise into 3 thin strips (24 strips total).
  3. Wrap each hot dog with 3 dough strips, starting at one end and leaving about 1/2 inch exposed at the top for eyes. Overlap slightly and press ends to seal.
  4. Arrange wrapped hot dogs on prepared baking sheet, about 1 inch apart.
  5. Beat egg with 1 tablespoon water and brush over dough on each mummy.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and hot dogs are heated through.
  7. While mummies bake, cut 8 ghost shapes from cheese slices using a ghost-shaped cookie cutter or paring knife.
  8. Press 2 black sesame seeds or poppy seeds into each cheese ghost for eyes.
  9. After mummies are done, let cool 2 minutes. Place cheese ghosts on a separate parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 375°F for 3-5 minutes until melted and bubbly.
  10. Press candy eyes into exposed hot dog area on each mummy while still warm.
  11. Serve warm with ketchup and mustard for dipping.

Notes

Don’t over-wrap the dough; 3 strips per hot dog is perfect. Leave room for eyes at the top. Watch cheese ghosts closely as they burn quickly. Use room temperature dough to prevent cracking. Can prep mummies up to egg wash stage and refrigerate for up to 4 hours before baking.
