This easy one-bowl pumpkin banana bread is moist, tender, and packed with warm spices. It’s a kid-approved, family-friendly recipe that comes together in about an hour with simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 cup)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil (or melted coconut oil)
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Optional mix-ins: 1/2 cup chocolate chips, chopped nuts, or dried cranberries

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with butter or nonstick spray, or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until mostly smooth (a few lumps are fine).
  3. Add the pumpkin puree, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the bowl. Whisk until smooth and well combined.
  4. Sprinkle the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, pumpkin pie spice, and cinnamon over the wet mixture. Fold gently with a spatula until just combined (a few lumps are okay). Do not overmix.
  5. If using mix-ins, fold them in now. Reserve a handful to sprinkle on top if desired.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly. Tap the pan gently on the counter to release air bubbles.
  7. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs. If the top browns too quickly, tent with foil for the last 10 minutes.
  8. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

For best results, use room-temperature ingredients and do not overmix the batter. The bread freezes well for up to 3 months. For a gluten-free version, use a 1:1 gluten-free baking blend. For a dairy-free version, ensure mix-ins are dairy-free.
