Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) red flavored gelatin (strawberry or cherry)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold water
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) unflavored gelatin (powdered) or 2 teaspoons agar-agar powder (for vegetarian option)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1 cup (240 ml) cold milk or milk alternative (whole milk or almond milk)
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar (optional)
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) blue flavored gelatin (blueberry or berry blue)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold water
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whipped topping (cool whip or homemade whipped cream)
  • 1/2 cup (75 g) fresh blueberries

Instructions

  1. Make the red jello layer: Dissolve red gelatin powder in 1 cup boiling water, stir 2 minutes until dissolved. Add 1/2 cup cold water and stir. Pour about 1/3 cup into each clear cup. Refrigerate 30 minutes until firm but tacky.
  2. Prepare the white layer: Sprinkle unflavored gelatin over 1 cup cold milk and let bloom 5 minutes. Boil 1 cup water separately. Add boiling water to milk-gelatin mixture and stir until dissolved. Stir in sugar if using. Cool to room temperature, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add the white layer: Gently spoon or pour about 1/3 cup of white gelatin mixture over red layer in each cup using the back of a spoon. Refrigerate 30 minutes until set but tacky.
  4. Make the blue jello layer: Dissolve blue gelatin powder in 1 cup boiling water, stir 2 minutes. Add 1/2 cup cold water and mix. Cool to room temperature.
  5. Add the blue layer: Slowly pour about 1/3 cup blue jello over white layer using the spoon technique. Refrigerate at least 1 hour until firm.
  6. Finish with topping: Add a dollop of whipped topping and garnish with fresh blueberries before serving.

Notes

Let each layer become tacky before adding the next to prevent mixing. Pour gelatin slowly over the back of a spoon to protect layers. Cool gelatin mixtures to room temperature before layering to avoid melting previous layers. Add whipped topping just before serving to maintain texture. Agar-agar powder can be used for vegetarian or vegan versions. Store leftovers covered in fridge up to 3 days; avoid freezing.
