A cozy and fuss-free slow cooker apple butter recipe perfect for fall, delivering deep flavors with minimal effort and a silky texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 68 medium apples (a mix of Fuji, Honeycrisp, and Granny Smith recommended)
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup granulated sugar (can substitute coconut sugar)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and chop 6 to 8 medium apples into roughly 1-inch chunks (about 10-15 minutes).
  2. Add chopped apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, vanilla extract, apple cider vinegar, and water into the slow cooker. Stir to mix evenly.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours, stirring every 2-3 hours if possible.
  4. After cooking, the mixture should be thick and jam-like. Use an immersion blender to puree until smooth or pulse gently for chunky texture.
  5. Taste and adjust sweetness or spices if desired. Cook on high for another 15-30 minutes to marry flavors.
  6. Let cool to room temperature before transferring to clean jars. Refrigerate and enjoy within 2 weeks or freeze for longer storage.

Notes

Stir every few hours to prevent burning and promote even cooking. If apple butter is too thin, remove lid during last hour to evaporate excess liquid. Adjust sugar to taste or substitute with maple syrup or honey. For chunkier texture, pulse blend instead of fully pureeing.
