This Easy Slow Cooker Chex Mix with Garlic Butter is the perfect snack for any occasion. With a savory garlic butter coating and a perfect crunch, it’s made effortlessly in the slow cooker without any burnt edges or uneven seasoning.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups Corn Chex cereal
  • 3 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 2 cups Wheat Chex cereal
  • 2 cups mini pretzel twists
  • 1 cup mixed nuts (salted peanuts and cashews recommended)
  • 1 cup cheese crackers (Goldfish or Cheez-Its)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt (Lawry’s recommended)
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (freshly ground preferred)

Instructions

  1. Lightly spray the inside of a 6-quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Add Corn Chex, Rice Chex, Wheat Chex, mini pretzels, mixed nuts, and cheese crackers to the slow cooker. Gently toss with your hands to distribute evenly.
  3. In a medium microwave-safe bowl, melt the unsalted butter. Whisk in Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, seasoned salt, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, and black pepper until fully combined.
  4. Slowly drizzle the garlic butter mixture over the cereal mixture in the slow cooker. Use a silicone spatula to gently fold and toss until every piece is coated, about 2 minutes.
  5. Cover the slow cooker with the lid slightly ajar (prop open with a wooden spoon handle or chopstick). Cook on Low for 2.5 to 3 hours, stirring every 45 minutes.
  6. After 2.5 hours, taste a piece of cereal. It should be crunchy. If still soft, cook another 15-30 minutes with the lid slightly open.
  7. Spread the finished Chex Mix onto parchment-lined baking sheets in a single layer. Let cool completely, about 30-45 minutes.
  8. Once cooled, transfer to an airtight container or large zip-top bags. Store at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

Keep the lid cracked to prevent sogginess. Stir from the bottom up to redistribute seasoning. Do not skip the cooling step for maximum crunch. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free pretzels and check Worcestershire sauce. For dairy-free, substitute butter with melted coconut oil or plant-based butter. To re-crisp, spread on a baking sheet and bake at 250°F for 10 minutes.
