Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter
  • 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup (65g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup (130g) smooth peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1–2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang on the long sides. Lightly grease the paper.
  2. Melt butter in a large microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals. Let cool for 2 minutes.
  3. Add sugar to melted butter and whisk until combined and glossy, about 1 minute.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, whisking well after each. Add vanilla and whisk again.
  5. Sift together flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder in a separate bowl.
  6. Fold dry ingredients into wet ingredients using a rubber spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Pour batter into prepared pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in center comes out with moist crumbs. Cool completely in pan on a cooling rack, about 1-2 hours.
  9. While brownies cool, make spiderweb mixture: Combine peanut butter and powdered sugar in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave 20 seconds, then stir. Add milk 1 tablespoon at a time until drizzling consistency.
  10. Lift cooled brownies from pan using parchment overhang. Cut into squares.
  11. To create spiderweb: Dip a fork or toothpick into peanut butter mixture and drizzle a spiral on each brownie from center outward. Use a clean toothpick to drag lines from center to edges, creating web effect. Work quickly while mixture is wet.

Notes

Don’t overbake – brownies are done when toothpick comes out with moist crumbs. Cool completely before decorating or peanut butter will melt. Use smooth peanut butter only; crunchy will break the webs. For best results, make brownies a day ahead and add spiderweb fresh before serving. Store in airtight container at room temperature up to 5 days.
