Ingredients

  • Bagels: plain, everything, or sesame, sliced and toasted
  • Thinly sliced smoked salmon (wild-caught recommended)
  • Softened plain cream cheese (optional: mix with Greek yogurt)
  • Capers, drained
  • Thinly sliced red onion
  • Sliced or julienned cucumber
  • Roughly chopped fresh dill
  • Lemon wedges
  • Halved cherry tomatoes (optional)
  • Olive oil, for drizzling
  • Freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions

  1. Toast the bagels (5-7 minutes): Slice bagels in half and toast until golden and slightly crispy. If using an oven, broil cut side up for 2-3 minutes, watching carefully.
  2. Prepare the cream cheese spread (3 minutes): Mix softened cream cheese with a spoonful of Greek yogurt (optional) and add a pinch of black pepper.
  3. Slice the veggies (5 minutes): Thinly slice red onions and cucumbers, halve cherry tomatoes, and roughly chop fresh dill.
  4. Arrange the board (5-7 minutes): Place toasted bagels on a serving board, spread cream cheese on each, layer smoked salmon slices, and scatter cucumber, red onion, cherry tomatoes, and capers around.
  5. Add final touches: Sprinkle fresh dill over the board, add lemon wedges, drizzle olive oil over the salmon, and finish with cracked black pepper.
  6. Serve immediately while bagels are warm and salmon is silky.

Notes

For gluten-free, substitute bagels with gluten-free bread or crackers. For dairy-free, use vegan cream cheese and smoked carrot ‘lox’. Toast bagels just before serving to avoid sogginess. Room temperature cream cheese spreads better. Thinly slice onions to avoid overpowering the salmon. Rinse capers if too salty.
