A quick and easy 15-minute beef and broccoli stir-fry with a savory soy-ginger sauce, perfect for busy weeknights and packed with flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 3 cups fresh broccoli florets (about 300g)
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce (60ml)
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce (30ml) (optional but recommended)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, finely grated
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (canola or grapeseed)
  • 1/4 cup water or beef broth (60ml)
  • Optional: crushed red pepper flakes, sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Slice the beef thinly against the grain into strips about 1/4 inch thick and set aside.
  2. Wash and cut broccoli into bite-sized florets. Optionally steam for 1-2 minutes to soften slightly.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, and water or beef broth until smooth.
  4. Marinate the beef with half the minced garlic and grated ginger for 5 minutes.
  5. Heat wok or large skillet over high heat and add vegetable oil. When shimmering, add beef in a single layer and sear about 2 minutes per side until browned but juicy. Remove beef and set aside.
  6. Add more oil if needed, then stir-fry remaining garlic and ginger for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add broccoli and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp.
  7. Return beef to pan and pour sauce over. Stir constantly for 1-2 minutes until sauce thickens and coats beef and broccoli with a glossy finish.
  8. Remove from heat and sprinkle with optional sesame seeds or crushed red pepper flakes.
  9. Serve immediately with steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

Use tamari instead of soy sauce for gluten-free. Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure proper searing. If sauce is too thin, add a pinch more cornstarch dissolved in cold water. Do not overcook beef to keep it tender. Fresh broccoli is preferred over frozen for best texture.
