A quick and easy summer drink featuring maraschino cherries, fresh lime juice, sparkling water, and vodka or rum for a boozy, refreshing slushie perfect for hot days and backyard gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 15 maraschino cherries with syrup
  • Juice of 2 large fresh limes (about 1/4 cup or 60 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (or 12 tablespoons simple syrup, optional)
  • 3 cups ice cubes (720 ml)
  • 1 cup sparkling water or club soda (240 ml)
  • 1/2 cup vodka or white rum (120 ml), optional
  • A handful of fresh mint leaves, optional for garnish
  • Extra lime wedges for garnish, optional

Instructions

  1. Chill the sparkling water and alcohol in the fridge before starting to keep the slushie icy.
  2. Roll the limes on the counter, cut in half, and juice to get about 1/4 cup (60 ml) of fresh lime juice, avoiding seeds.
  3. Add 15 maraschino cherries and 1/4 cup (60 ml) of their syrup into the blender. Pulse a few times to break them down but keep some texture.
  4. Add 2 tablespoons sugar (or simple syrup if using) and 3 cups (720 ml) of ice cubes. Blend on high for 30-45 seconds until smooth and slushy. Pulse and stir if blender jams.
  5. Pour in the lime juice and 1 cup (240 ml) sparkling water. Pulse a few seconds to combine without losing fizz.
  6. Add 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka or rum. Blend quickly one last time to mix evenly.
  7. Taste and adjust sweetness or thickness by adding more sugar/simple syrup or sparkling water as needed, pulsing briefly.
  8. Serve immediately in tall clear glasses, garnished with fresh mint leaves and lime wedges.

Notes

Use fresh, firm ice cubes for best texture. Pulse sparkling water and alcohol briefly to keep fizz. Bruise mint leaves gently before garnishing to release aroma. Chill ingredients beforehand to keep slush icy longer. Serve immediately as slushies melt fast. For make-ahead, blend base without soda and alcohol, add them just before serving.
