Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 to 8 celery stalks, cut into 4-inch pieces
  • 1 (16-ounce) bag baby carrots
  • 1 pint cherry tomatoes
  • 1 (6-ounce) can pitted black olives
  • 1 large English cucumber, sliced into ¼-inch rounds
  • 1 cup broccoli florets, bite-sized
  • 1 cup cauliflower florets, bite-sized
  • 1 large red bell pepper, cut into strips
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground

Instructions

  1. Make the ranch dip first. In a small mixing bowl, combine 1 cup sour cream, ½ cup mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons fresh dill, 1 tablespoon fresh chives, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon dried parsley, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, ½ teaspoon salt, and ¼ teaspoon black pepper. Whisk until smooth. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld.
  2. Prep all vegetables. Wash thoroughly and pat dry with paper towels. Cut celery into 4-inch pieces, cucumber into ¼-inch rounds, broccoli and cauliflower into bite-sized florets, and red bell pepper into ½-inch strips. Leave baby carrots whole. Rinse and drain cherry tomatoes and black olives.
  3. Arrange the spider body. Place the small bowl of ranch dip in the center of a large serving platter. Arrange 8 to 10 black olives in a cluster around the base of the dip bowl to form the spider’s head and thorax.
  4. Add the spider legs. Place celery sticks radiating outward from the olive cluster, 4 on each side, at slight angles to look like spider legs in motion.
  5. Fill in the spaces. Arrange remaining vegetables around the spider legs. Group similar veggies together: baby carrots in fan shapes, cucumber slices in a curved line, broccoli and cauliflower in clusters, cherry tomatoes scattered for color, and red bell pepper strips woven between.
  6. Create the spider eyes. Place two small dollops of ranch dip on two black olives near the front of the cluster. Press a tiny sliver of black olive onto each dollop to create pupils.
  7. Final touches. Adjust any vegetables as needed. Scatter extra olives for a ‘baby spiders’ effect. Garnish dip with fresh dill. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

For best results, dry vegetables thoroughly after washing to prevent soggy dip. Make dip ahead of time for better flavor. Keep platter cold until serving. For dairy-free, use vegan sour cream and mayo. For a spicy kick, add ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper to the dip.
