This easy homemade honey butter is creamy, sweet, and perfect for spreading on pancakes, waffles, toast, or biscuits. Made with just butter and honey, it’s a quick and affordable treat that tastes better than store-bought.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Soften the butter: Take your butter out of the fridge about 30-45 minutes before you plan to make the honey butter. Cut it into small cubes to speed things up. You want it soft but not melted.
  2. Whip the butter: Place the softened butter in a medium mixing bowl. Using a hand mixer or stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter on medium speed for about 2 minutes, until it’s light, fluffy, and pale in color. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula halfway through.
  3. Add the honey: Drizzle the honey into the whipped butter. Add the salt if you’re using it. Start mixing on low speed so the honey doesn’t splash everywhere, then increase to medium speed. Beat for another 1-2 minutes, until the honey is fully incorporated and the mixture is smooth and glossy. Scrape down the sides again to make sure everything is combined.
  4. Taste and adjust: Dip a clean spoon in and taste it. Want it sweeter? Add another tablespoon of honey and mix again. Want more salt? Add a tiny pinch.
  5. Transfer to a jar: Using your rubber spatula, scrape every last bit of honey butter into your clean jar. Press it down gently to remove any air pockets. Smooth the top with the spatula.
  6. Chill or serve: You can serve it immediately if you want a soft, spreadable butter. Or, pop the jar in the fridge for about 30 minutes to firm it up.

Notes

For best texture, ensure butter is at room temperature (soft but not melted). If using salted butter, omit the extra salt. Honey butter can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Let it sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes before serving to soften. For a fun twist, add 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
